Hue
While in the airport in Inchon, on our way to Vietnam, we met Miss Alina Ton and her
mother. Miss Alina was born and raised in Hue, Vietnam but has lived in the
United States for 12 years. She is a citizen of the US and lives in Los Angeles
where she is a travel agent. Work is slow so she returned to Hue to visit
family. I asked her if she would like to show us her beautiful city. She
agreed and it made our stay in Hue so much more enjoyable.

The Mausoleum of Khai Dinh.
At the end of the American war these tombs and temples were considered politically incorrect and left un maintained. Fortunately they survived and are now cared for since their value as tourist attractions.

Pavilion at Tu Duc Mausoleum
When the tombs were built they included a temple to worshiping ancestors, often
a palace for the current royal family to live in while visiting the tomb and in
this case a building by a lake where the decendents of Tu Duc could come and
relax, have some fresh air and write poetry.

Empress Alina Ton
Miss Alina went to a place in the Palace, at Tu Duc's Mausoleum, where they gave
her a costume and took her picture on the throne.

Minh Mang's Tomb
Enterance gate
I think Minh Mang's toumb is the most beautiful we saw. It is a masive complex
of the Tomb, Temples, Palace and even a State House. The landscaping is beautiful
and the entire site is serene. There are lakes and bridges.

Foundations at Imperial City
Also called the Purple City or Forbiden City the grounds have been largely
destroyed by the Japanese, during the Second world war, the French and even the
Americans. We are shown areas where the Empresses quarters were and this
contained 9 buildings including her Temple, housing for her staff and other out
buildings. It is fortunate that so much still exists.

Boat on Perfume River
Miss Ton arrainged a tour on the Perfume River. We spent a day on the river, visited many Tombs, Temples and Pagodas. The trip lasted most of the day and included lunch on the boat. The cost for the day was $2.00 USD.
